This week we're interviewing Powell Playhouse newcomer, Virginia Knowles, who is playing Ms. Enquist in "A Nice Family Gathering!"
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I grew up in New York and Massachusetts. After getting married, my husband's job moved us every few years. So I have lived in Florida, Georgia, and now Tennessee. I have two daughters. One lives in Georgia with her husband and two children. My other daughter currently lives here in Tennessee.
How did you get involved in the Powell Playhouse?
Mrs. Nita Buell Black and I would talk on the phone and she sent me a very nice letter inviting me to come and join the Playhouse. But I never seemed to be able to find the time until recently.
What is your favorite role you've played and why?
I played Rozelind in Othello in high school. Our English teacher loved Shakespeare and would have the students do short skits of different plays. It was fun and we got to play different parts each time.
Cats or dogs?
Over the years, I've had many rescued dogs, cats, parakeets (15 at one time!), and horses, but I would say dogs are my favorite.
If you could sing one song on American Idol, what would it be?
My all time favorite "Bad To The Bone" by George Thorgood and a close runner up would be "Proud To Be An American" by Lee Greenwood.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?
I definitely would bring my dog, Autumn; fishing line; and my machete. For companionship; food; and to build shelter, so I wouldn't ever have to leave the island.
That was Virginia, ladies and gents! Be sure to see her in "A Nice Family Gathering" November 6 7, and 8!
